The Spiritual Threat of Abundance - Staying Grounded
Today is the final episode of our A.I. mini-series. It began with a hard question: could AI bring about the end of humanity? We didn’t choose that question as click-bait. The warning comes from the people building these systems. Some have asked whether they mean it, or whether fear simply makes good marketing. After all, nothing gets attention like the end of the world.
But the alarm isn’t coming only from the builders. Researchers in AI safety are sounding it too, many of them with nothing to sell, and they are staking their reputations on it. These are serious warnings from serious people.
That said, the experts’ own estimates range from roughly zero to 99.999 percent. When the people who know the most can’t agree within a hundred points, wherever you land on that scale, you’ve landed in speculation.
So to close the series, we’re going to the other side of the alarm bells: the abundant future, where AI works and the world gets better. Disease declines. Cancer is cured. There’s more than enough to go around. The optimists don’t say there won’t be challenges, but they are confident it will all work out.
And here’s the question we’ll leave you with. What if that’s the harder test? Scripture records the devil tempting Jesus with bread, safety and the kingdoms of the world, not with suffering. When ten lepers were healed, only one came back to give thanks. What happens to people who no longer feel they need their Creator?
In this final episode, “Stay Grounded,” we’ll talk about how a Christian should live in a world that may become more chaotic and more comfortable at the same time.
