The Right Side of the Door
As we continue along on our red-letter journey, we encounter Jews asking Jesus who will be saved. Will it be many or just a few? The beauty of following along chronologically is that we just heard Jesus discussing the narrow door over in John 10. There he was addressing the religious leaders. Well, that doesn't mean that their followers get off the hook and Jesus makes it abundantly clear.
Some will suggest that this can be one of the scariest passages to hear Jesus utter. Luke 13:25-27.
Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’
We want to make sure that our listeners understand that those verses are only scary if one is standing on the wrong side of the door. To be sure, we detailed the characteristics of those who stand with assurance the right side of the door.
We also discussed why the date setters, those guys that are always trying to predict the rapture and the return of Christ are at the very least misguided. There is one date that they may not be able to predict and that one is the most important date of their life.
