The Father's Banquet - And the Party Crasher
We've heard the Parable of the Great Banquet or Wedding Banquet probably a lot in our bible studies. Both Matthew and Luke tell the story and both help ground the meaning. In our Red-Letter journey, we find this parable told by Jesus early on Tuesday morning in Passion Week. Luke's version is the same parable told at an earlier event.... which is one of the reasons we've seen this story before.
I came into this passage reflecting on that wedding feast we are all going to attend after the return of Christ. My small, pea-sized brained never thought of that as nothing but a real dinner celebration. I wonder how many other people think like me. It's a really cool thought, albeit not exactly practical - but then God can do anything. I always imagined that I would be sitting at a table with all the people in my life that I have touched or was touched by, they I helped bring into the kingdom or that helped bring me into the kingdom.
Well, it can still be like that but different. Dinner won't be a one-time thing in the kingdom, and neither will fellowship.
