Shooting the Messenger

I love reading scripture quietly, slowly and intentionally and then following the hyperlinks that appear in my head! I've already told you guys; I can't shut off the spicket. I'm not good at the details but I pick up on the patterns. I can't go directly to scripture passages from memory but in this jumble of wires in my head, I can somehow connect the dots. I thank God for allowing me to make this affliction something useful and not some sort of craziness! I let my apps sort it out into something cohesive and presentable and that's how I come with every podcast!

Today we follow Jesus as he makes his appearance at the Feast of Tabernacles, teaching on the temple court. Where did that journey take us?

Some things it made me think about:

  • What are you doing in those times when nobody is watching?
  • What are you thinking?
  • What are you doing?

Reflecting on that offers a great view of your heart posture.

  • What are you doing when you think nobody is watching?
  • What are you doing when you are far from God?
  • Who are you in church?
  • Who are you away from church?

Shooting the messenger was as common in Jesus' day as it is today. Our media is rife with it! I would say most journalists today are acting like their pharisaic counterparts in scriptures. I would argue that most of today's journalism is based on the Ad Hominem Attack. Don't know what that is? We go into it.

When you listen to others, what are you hearing?

  • What does gossip sound like?
  • How were the Pharisees weaponizing scripture?
  • How did they refute Jesus (or at least try to)

When you speak to others and specifically when you give your testimony: What drives your testimony? We went deeper with this question and came up with a template for rewriting your testimony. That alone is worth downloading the notes.

  • Have you considered your testimony?
  • Does it make you look good (or better)?
  • Is it self-exaltation?
  • Does it glorify God?

Yeah... I know. all of that from 14 verses of scripture.
