One Lord, One Return, One Glory - Simplifying Eschatology

I think sometimes we overcomplicate eschatology (the study of end times). I'm certainly guilty of falling into that trap. My guess is that comes from years, centuries even of trying to wedge interpretive ideas into scripture rather than simply let scripture speak. Before we move away from the woes to the Pharisees, the indictments really, I want to zoom in on one line, that if you miss it, you lose clarity for what Jesus says next (in Matthew 24).

“For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” (Matthew 23:39, KJV)

Very often, those that study eschatology like to map their timelines onto scripture and will jump immediately into Matthew 24. We are learning the fallacy of that. Admittedly, we've been guilty of presenting those interpretations. They're hard to avoid!

But today, we want to keep it simple and focused and what the scripture says and not get deep into interpretative theory. After looking at this, I don't think it's required. If you sit on this passage as your anchor, a lot of how you interpret scripture for end times falls at the very feet of Christ and He's telling you plainly and clearly.

This is One Lord, One Return. One Glory.
