Giants and Grace

Producing this podcast was somewhat convicting for me because I recognized that in my own fascination with the origin of the giants in Genesis I was missing the most important point. So, I want to use this podcast to put the question to bed. There are other resources if you want to chase giants, Nephilim and the like but they are not the main focus of the Bible. God does have to deal with them, both before and after the flood but ultimately, you'll discover that God's grace is bigger than the Giants.

This came up during one of our Berean evaluations and I decided to take on the subject directly to see if I could gain some clarity about the origin of the Giants (Nephilim) for both the pre and post flood eras. This has also helped me stand on more solid ground with some pre-conceived notions that I've had about the post flood giants in particular. Ultimately, God will deal with the Giants and that alone is a fascinating journey. We'll address those stories as they arrive.

While understanding the Giants in the Bible is important, we often get lost in the message. We wanted to make sure we closed this discussion with the discussion around Genesis 6-6-8. This sets the stage for the entire rest of the biblical narrative. It helps us understand the character of God and His response. This is where we see the first instance of the Hebrew word for Grace. Even in the shadow of the giants, this is one of the most important concepts in the Bible. It is perhaps the reason why Genesis 6 does not dwell on the Giants as much as we want to know. The movement of the passage is toward the character of God, not the existence of Giants in the Bible.
